Afro Lube Limited wishes to inform the public, our customers, and business partners of a serious case of trademark infringement and brand misrepresentation by Rumanza Group of Industries.

It has been brought to our attention that Rumanza Group is unlawfully using the Afro Oil name, logo, and product design on its website and marketing materials, under the domain afrooils.com. This constitutes an unauthorized duplication of Afro Oil’s intellectual property and is intended to mislead consumers into believing their products are associated with our company.

We categorically state that Afro Oil Limited has no affiliation, partnership, or business relationship with Rumanza Group of Industries or any of its subsidiaries .

The use of our name and trade identity by this entity is fraudulent and illegal .

Customers and distributors are strongly advised to verify the authenticity of all Afro Oil products before purchase. Genuine Afro Oil lubricants are manufactured and distributed exclusively by Afro Oil Limited, Uganda, and carry our official branding and approved packaging.

We urge the public to exercise caution and report any counterfeit or suspicious products claiming to be Afro Oil to info@afrooil.com or via our official contact channels.

Description of Base Oil

Motor oil, engine oil, or C is any of various substances comprising base oils enhanced with various additives, particularly antiwear additive in addition to detergents, dispersants and, for multi-grade oils, viscosity index improvers. Motor oil is used for lubrication of internal combustion engines.

The main function of motor oil is to reduce friction and wear on moving parts and to clean the engine from sludge (one of the functions of dispersants) and varnish (detergents). It also neutralizes acids that originate from fuel and from the oxidation of the lubricant (detergents), improves sealing of piston rings, and cools the engine by carrying heat away from moving parts.

In addition to the aforementioned basic constituents, almost all lubricating oils contain corrosion and oxidation inhibitors. Motor oil may be composed of only a lubricant base stock in the case of non-detergent oil, or a lubricant base stock plus additives to improve the oil’s detergency, extreme pressure performance, and ability to inhibit corrosion of engine parts.

Motor oils today are blended using base oils composed of petroleum-based hydrocarbons, polyalphaolefins (PAO), or their mixtures in various proportions, sometimes with up to 20% by weight of esters for better dissolution of additives.

Use of Motor Oil

Motor oil is a lubricant used in internal combustion engines, which power cars, motorcycles, lawnmowers, engine-generators, and many other machines. In engines, there are parts that move against each other, and the friction wastes otherwise useful power by converting the kinetic energy to heat. It also wears away those parts, which could lead to lower efficiency and degradation of the engine. This increases fuel consumption and decreases power output and can lead to engine failure.

Lubricating oil creates a separating film between surfaces of adjacent moving parts to minimize direct contact between them, decreasing heat caused by friction and reducing wear, thus protecting the engine. In use, motor oil transfers heat through conduction as it flows through the engine.

In an engine with a recirculating oil pump, this heat is transferred by means of airflow over the exterior surface of the [oil pan], airflow through an oil cooler, and through oil gases evacuated by the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system. While modern recirculating pumps are typically provided in passenger cars and other engines similar or larger in size, total loss oiling is a design option that remains popular in small and miniature engines.

Used Oil Re-refining

New motor oil that is put into your vehicle engine doesn’t wear out – it just gets dirty. That’s the idea behind re-refining. Today, our industry can use advanced technical processes to remove the contaminants that build up in the used oil and restore it to good-as-new condition.

The following is from an EPA report entitled "Managing Used Motor Oil.” ¹

"Used oil is a valuable resource because it has lubrication value and heat value. Although motor oil becomes contaminated during use with materials that reduce its ability to adequately lubricate engine parts, it still maintains its basic lubricating properties. When specially treated to remove contaminants, the used oil can be used as a base stock to produce new lubricating oil.

This keeps the lubricating value of the used oil from being wasted. In addition, reusing the used oil as a base stock for lubricating oil saves the virgin oil that would otherwise be used as the lubricating oil base stock.”

When you buy a quart of new motor oil, approximately 90% of the content is what is called lubricating base oil. The base oil is usually made by refining virgin crude oil. Major refineries take in crude oil and process it to make gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, asphalt – and in some cases, lube base oil. Not all refineries have the equipment to extract and purify the lube base oil from crude, but there are many that do.

Re-Refined Lubricating Base Oil

Many years ago, it was not uncommon for lube base oil to be used directly as lubricating oil. But over the years, the demands imposed by modern high performance engines have led to new formulas that require supplemental chemicals to be added to the base oil. That’s why today, around 10% of typical motor oil is made up of different chemical additives that improve the performance of the lubricant.

These additives may help the oil maintain its lubricating quality at very high or low temperatures. Some of the additives help to bond to water molecules to prevent the formation of rust.

As the lubricating oil is used in an engine, the additives break down, and the oil becomes contaminated by components such as carbon and fuel. Eventually you change your oil to make sure that the lubricant has the capability to continuously protect the engine. The base oil component of the used oil is still valuable. Our challenge is to remove the contaminants and recover and purify the lube base oil.

A generation ago, this wasn’t easy to do, but through the hard work of innovators in our industry, today there are many recyclers that are able to accomplish this task consistently and reliably.

Disposing of used motor oil the wrong way has the potential to pollute the environment. We need to recover and recycle as much of it as possible.

Used motor oil is hazardous

Motor oil picks up a variety of hazardous contaminants when used in engines and transmissions. These contaminants include lead, cadmium, chromium, arsenic, dioxins, benzene and polycyclic aromatics. If used motor oil and the contaminants it contains are disposed of inappropriately and released into the environment, they can harm humans, plants, animals, fish and shellfish.

In water, oil is a visible pollutant, floating as a scum on the surface. This oil scum can stop sunlight and oxygen from getting into the water, affecting fish and water plants. It can kill fish, frogs and other animals that breathe from the water's surface.

Low temperature burning of used oil can create airborne pollutants that can get into people's lungs and have adverse health effects.

Used motor oil can be recycled

Oil doesn't wear out; it just gets dirty. Used oil can be cleaned, re-refined and used again and again.

Appropriate disposal

Used motor oil is a valuable resource. If it is disposed of at a used oil collection facility, it can be recovered and re-used, without posing a threat to humans or the environment.

No other substances should ever be allowed to mix with used oil. Contamination by water or other chemicals may mean the used oil can't be recycled.
